The Sounds of CL, Vol. III: from Corrosion of Conformity to Girl Talk to Lemuria and more

Ever wonder what the Creative Loafing music team has been listening to? There's plenty, believe me; here's this week's selections. Click here to check out Vol. I and here to check out Vol. II.

Leilani OK Go, Of the Colour of the Sky (2010) I've been spinning this disc regularly since it came out in January, and popped it in again yesterday because I had an interview with bassist Tim Nordwind to advance the band's May 14 show at Crowbar. Of the Colour of the Sky is arguably one of the best albums this year (and without a doubt, the best album of the band's career so far). Seems like they were listening to some Prince when they recorded this album; it's very sexy and slinky — that is, of course, when it's not trying to make you shake your thang with its funky, discofied grooves, or heavy electro-aggro dance moments, all of it impeccably arranged and produced.

Ivan Minus the Bear, Omni (2010)

I haven't gotten through all of it yet, but it sounds like they haven't lost their signature style. I love these guys.

JasonVieux Farka Toure, Fondo (2009)

I’m kind of obsessed with two things right now: the Vieux Farka Toure show from last week, and Lost. So I’m listening to Farka's newest album, Fondo, as well as lots of Lost podcasts (including CL’s).

Jeff The Human Condition, Life In Lines (2010)

I'm making my third or fourth pass through this newly-released CD so that I can give it a proper review. I really like it so far.
