Pretty slim pickings on this Thurs., July 14, at least as far as concerts go. Take a look at the breakdown below.
Tour of Two Wolves with iVardensphere, Cyantoic, Iszolos Ever have a friend try and describe industrial music to you? It usually goes something like “Oh yeah, there’s this huge droning, repetitive beat, and the vocals are mostly monotone, and there’s no real structure at times, sometimes a dude screams, but there’s mostly just long stretches of ambient sound where guys in leather trench coats stand around and fist pump, mumbling vagaries about trans-humanism and cyberpunk.” It sounds positively, like, the worst thing on the planet. But it can be pretty cool when done well, and Canada’s iVardensphere does an exceptional job at it with huge militaristic bass tones and drum-machine beats. Cyantoic leans more toward the metal spectrum, fusing industrial-style percussion with heavy guitar work. All-black attire not required for maximum fun. (Orpheum, Ybor City) —Brian Roesler
WTF Is Going On? 600 Block Party with Mike Busey and his Beauties, Mosquito Teeth, The Notorious Nastie Google “Mike Busey and His Beauties,” and you’ll find a load of stories about his Orlando-based “Sausage Castle,” so notorious it earned a visit from Vice. In its story, the lifestyle rag described the sleazy nephew of Gary B. as “a Juggalo version of Willy Wonka” and his Castle — which houses both miscreant cohorts and the handful of burlesque dancers/entertainers/fire-breathing sex kittens who’ve dubbed themselves the “Busey Beauties” — “like a combination of the Island of Misfit Toys and the Pleasure Island from Disney’s Pinocchio.” He sells his live stage spectacle as “a drunken freak show circus” that features a sexy midget, crazy clowns and a 500-lb black man (his words, not mine). Be afraid. Be very, very afraid. (Local 662, St. Petersburg) —Leilani Polk
