The Get Up Kids [pictured left] w/Miniature Tigers/Brian Bonz One of Kansas City’s biggest exports, The Get Up Kids, are credited with pioneering the “second wave” post-punk emo movement alongside acts like Jimmy Eat World and Saves The Day in the late 1990s, and established their influence with catchy hooks and heart-on-sleeve lyrics. After a three-year hiatus, The Get Up Kids returned with a matured sound and a new album, There Are Rules, self-released this past January through their own Quality Hill label. In his CL review, Ray Roa commented on the band’s evolution, “proof that getting old doesn’t have to mean getting stale.” 7 p.m. doors, State Theatre, St. Petersburg, $22 (all ages). –Valerie Quintana

Worldwide Zoo A Friday night set of boundary-pushing funkadelic jazz by the three-piece outfit made up of keyboardist Michael Zabrek, bassist Santiago Rodriguez and drummer Jason Stander. 10 p.m., Ella's Americana Folk Art Cafe, Tampa, free admission.

The Crash Mitchell Five w/The Dirty Spoons And Trash Revue/Skull and Bone Band Tongue-in-cheeky country punk rocker Sean “Crash” Mitchell dropped out of the scene last fall after a heart attack left him incapacitated and unable to walk, let alone play. After several weeks in the hospital, and a few months worth of recuperation and physical rehabbing, the newly revitalized Crash returns with his group to kick out “Trailer Trash Girl,” "Baby Jesus Killed my Dog," "All My Friends Are Assholes” and various other Crash classics. Friends and fellow locals, Dirty Spoons and Trash Revue (a roots rock outfit featuring Natty Moss Bond and Judy Tampa) and Southern gritty jam rockers Skull n’ Bone Band, round out the bill. 9 p.m., Crowbar, Ybor City, $6.
