Check out all the shows that are happening this Fri., Oct. 30, plus take a peek at the concert lineup coming up this Halloween weekend.

Chris Cornell Acoustic with Hemming Two things have held up over Chris Cornell’s more than three-decade career: his powerful vocal quality, that smoky croon capable of ascending to a hair-raising howl, and his smoldering magnetism, fired up on high with Soundgarden, and more intimately showcased in the rock singer-songwriter’s fourth solo outing, Higher Truth, inspired by artists like Nick Drake and White Album-era Beatles. Lead single “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart” has a finely-wrought classic rock vibe with folk trappings in the lush yet restrained string work. He’s currently on an acoustic tour and amid songs by Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog and solo material, he’ll likely throw in covers like Prince’s “Nothing Compares to U,” made famous by Sinead O’Conner and cued up by Cornell on a recent Sirius XM performance. (Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg)—Leilani Polk

Thomas Carabasi Samba Jazz Quintet Drummer/percussionist Carabasi pilots a program of American and Brazilian jazz standards as with back-up from Patrick Bettison (bass, harmonica), guitarist/singer Phill Fest, pianist Robert Prester and Perry Childs (sax, flute). (Palladium Theater, St. Petersburg)—LP

Make It Funk: Fusik Plays James Brown Combining elements of funk, psychedelic rock, Latin music and soul out of Miami is Fusik, a five-piece that’s been making asses move with greasy grooves since 2005. On this night, they lay it down with a tribute to James Brown; DJ Felix playing an all-vinyl set, too. (Dunedin Brewery, Dunedin)—LP

Mark Knopfler The new album from Mark Knopfler has been hailed as one of his best, inspired by his European tour with Bob Dylan in 2011 and remaining true to his storytelling style and atmospheric rock sound. “It’s called Tracker in the sense of tracking time over decades … Tracking down a song to the end,” the former Dire Straits primary told Rolling Stone earlier this year. Haven’t heard it yet? Every pair of tickets purchased for his date in Clearwater comes with a free copy of Knopfler’s eighth solo outing. (Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater)—LP

The Freakers’ Ball: Life’s a Beach and Then You Die with The Cheaters The Skipperdome presents its traditional Halloween party for adults, this year featuring live Top 40 pop rock jams by all star femme-driven local supergroup The Cheaters. Prizes are awarded for the best costumes, so be sure to get your best beach ghoul on. (Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa)—LP

Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires with The Wooley Bushmen Lee Bains III is a bad mamma jamma who doesn’t know whether he’s punk, country, or just some crazy ass honkey that wandered on stage from the dirty ass alleys of north central Birmingham, Ala. Bucking his Deep South upbringing, Bains III plays demographic-bending brand of corn-fed Americana that’s ripe for a bender while seated on the front porch of your ex-wife’s apartment. The title track of the single off brand new LP Deconstructed roars with a madness that is both blissful and befuddlingly beautiful. Be ready to blow stale alcohol breath on all your trick or treaters if you show up to this Friday rager. (Crowbar, Ybor City) —Ray Roa

Soul Asylum, Meat Puppets It’s a ‘90s rewind on this Friday night double header with two bands that formed in the early ‘80s but became staples of the grunge era. Soul Asylum delivered emotive alt rock grind as fueled by Dave Pirner’s high-toned warble, while Meat Puppets infused their alternative sounds with cowpunk thrust and managed to earn some unexpected fame when Nirvana covered a couple of their tracks for MTV Unplugged (“Lake of Fire,” “Plateau”). (State Theatre, St. Petersburg)—LP

Cult Leader A crusty punk group formed from the ashes of Arizona metalcore outfit Gaza in 2013 that’s already recorded two EPs and a full length in its short tenure, this tour falling behind the latter, 2015 debut LP Lightless Walk. (Epic Problem, Tampa)—LP

Ghouls Gone Wild with PLEASURES, Moon Flag, Joe Seul, Big Chris The Movie Pleasures have been playing a bunch lately, and all of us townies are damn better for it, too. The electro psych-noir outfit takes over The Bends’ Ghouls Gone Wild Halloween party and will seduce what is sure to be a highly-intoxicated crowd already warmed up by cover specialists Moon Flag and wish-I-was-on-mushrooms mind-fucking producer and visual artist Joe Suel. If you make it to this classy St. Pete dive the night before for the Fevers release party, you might want to consider spending the night. (The Bends, St. Petersburg) —RR
