Extra Celestial w/Inkblot Hey, the crazy kids from Jim Chambers’ Music Box are at it again. This time two of their bands — pop leaning Extra Celestial and Inkblot — will play a free show for the hockey fans outside Amalie Arena who may or may not be mourning the Bolts’ playoff chances by the time this blurb sees the page. Diego Figueiredo w/O Som Do Jazz Demand is bound to be high when George Benson (one of jazz’s best guitarists) says you’re one of the best players he’s ever seen, and that’s why Diego Figueiredo is playing two shows at the Palladium Theater’s Side Door Cabaret. Brazilian jazz collective O Som Do Jazz will be there to help their contryman bring it to life onstage, and this stands to be on of the best shows of the weekend. Safety Harbor Songfest w/Magic Giant/Rising Appalachia/Daphne Willis/more New Orleans sibling duo Rising Appalachia are attempting to take any glitz and glam out of the industry thanks to their “slow music” movement (think sustainable touring practices like responsible food sourcing and reducing single-use waste), but there is nothing slow about their ascent in the folk world, where a message of social and global justice is ringing loud for a growing legion of fans attracted to Leah and Chloe Smith’s multi-instrumental approach that utilizes the didgeridoo, spoons, kalimbas, banjos, fiddles and more. It’ll be interesting to see how Daphne Willis’s polished pop sound (“Done With Being Done”) will mesh with some of her folky-jazz-influenced offerings (“One By One”) and the festival lineup at large. Songfest’s potential to cross over into an all-encompassing music festival serving most every age and taste is epitomized in the booking of this L.A. folk-pop collective that provides an air of authenticity to a Top 40 sound paying tribute to Mumford & Sons and the Lumineers.
