Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes w/Royal Republic/Switchblade Villain Frank Carter is out of Pure Love and has come out from The Gallows. His new band — Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes — is ready to bare its teeth with a new LP (Modern Ruin, released in January) where punk anthems like “Acid Veins” meet quiet acoustic ditties (“Blue Belle”) for a record that more or less plays like 40 minutes of the most joyus UK rock that’ll hit Ybor City this year. Aaron Tveit We’re hoping it gets ultra witty at this cabaret performance from Aaron Tveit, who you probably know from Grease:Live or maybe even Gossip Girl and Graceland. The 33-year-old actor absolutely killed it on CBS’s BrainDead, and we’re expecting this performance to live up to the hype of “six sold out nights” in the Big Apple. (Ferguson Hall at the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts, Tampa) INFO
DMC Battle w/DJ Immortal/DJ Crazy Bazarro CL gets a little slack for the way we smirk at electronic music superstars like The Chainsmokers who sit behind their CDJs and laptops while pretending to rock a crowd. It’s not like we’re not happy for the fans; we’ve just seen a more serious, skilled side of party rocking on several occasions. It’s no secret that Crowbar is a stronghold for the art of turntablism thanks to Ol’ Dirty Sundays (ODS), and on this particular Sunday one of ODS’ residents (DJ Fader) teams up with the DMC World Championships to host a Tampa DJ battle. Contestants will face off in a classic solo showcase where they’ll be given two minutes to put together a routine that will be judged by a panel that will select six masters of the ones & twos for the finals. No dicers are permitted, and interested parties should register via dmcworld.com before midnight on April 29. The rest of just need to show up a little early for ODS (and pay the cover for the battle) and watch it unfold. (Crowbar, Ybor City) INFO

Sheryl Crow It shouldn’t be surprising that that Sheryl Crow is still moving tickets in big rooms like Ruth Eckerd, and no one should be taken aback with the grit she puts on display in support of a brand new LP (Be Myself) where the 55-year-old is pissed about Russia (“Heartbeat Away”) and also showing off a gentle side (“Rest of Me”). It’ll also make you happy to know that Crow’s sets are still filled with all the hits from her now 24-year-old discography. (Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater) INFO
Marty Keane Benefit w/Ronny Elliott and the Nationals/Ricky Wilcox/Stonebone/Talk to Mark/Rebekah Pulley and Rob Pastore/Skully/Dirty Spoons/Trash,/The Rich Whiteley Duo Marty Keane has helped hundred of people throughout his career as a homeopathic physician, and now the tables have turned as the community bands together so that Keane and his wife Laura — both big supporters of the local music scene — can offset the costs of unavoidable medical treatments related to lung cancer. More than handful of Marty’s favorite bands will be there, and this is your chance to prove that the universe does indeed dole out good karma in spades. (Cage Brewing, St. Petersburg) INFO
The Laila Biali Trio Canada comes to Cigar City all thanks to the Tampa Jazz Club, who’ll welcome 36-year-old pianist Laila Biali to HCC’s Mainstage Theatre for a set that expands on the Juno Award nominated talent’s new exploration of traditional jazz and contemporary pop. It’s Biali’s Bay area debut and the season finale for the Jazz Club and HCC series, so get your licks in now. (Mainstage Theatre at Hillsborough Community College, Ybor City) INFO
Popa Chubby We wrote about bluesman Popa Chubby playing in the area last week, and we’re kicking ourselves for not waiting until his nudist resort appearance to make light about how the moniker (and new single “The Catfish”) would create lots of great double entendres for us in the copy department.
