Kesha is in town tonight, but we won't be there (officially). Our heroine is in something of a transition these days, and she's requested that the press be excluded for her show tonight as she explores a new sound (read more about that below) whilst also coming out from under the long-running lawsuit she filed against former producer Dr. Luke in 2014.
We're definitely bummed about the media blackout and secretly hoping to read about tonight's show in some super juicy international media exclusive. but mostly we're rooting for ya' girl to kill it as she explores another side of her creativity.
See the rest of tonight's live music lineup below.
Kesha and the Creepies Kesha’s new band, the Creepies, boasts a moniker made for the scare season, and while an ongoing lawsuit against her former producer/mentor Dr. Luke means there are still frightening times ahead for the 29-year-old entertainer, she isn’t letting that stop her from hitting the road. In August, Kesha and the Creepies embarked on a seven-date tour of the Midwest and Kentucky, and now that same tour has been extended to include three stops in the Sunshine State. The “F*** the World” tour stops at The Ritz in Ybor City on Tuesday, and fans should not expect the Kesha that brushed her teeth with Jack Daniels. She’s described the Creepies sound as “dirty rock & roll and country music,” and shows are supposed to features songs that fans have never heard her play before, plus songs she may never play again. Do expect the same outspokenness, however, as Kesha has been speaking out for LGBT rights protections (and speaking out against Trump) at recent stops (The Ritz, Ybor City) INFO
Matt Woods w/Will Quinlan/Band of Sorrows There’s another Matt Woods making music out there. He’s from London and does not-bad electro-pop pretty well. Just for the record, this show features the real Matt Woods (it says so in his URL, people). In all seriousness, the Knoxville, Tennessee songwriter visiting New World on Tuesday embodies the idea of a troubadour to the core. The grays in his hair only begin to expose the substance behind the stories he shares on rollicking country songs like “The American Way,” and while stuff from his latest album How To Survive might make you want to take down copious amounts of whiskey while you contemplate the meaning of your life, you might want to hold off on your trip to Fuma Bella because every minute of Woods’s set is likely to be the equivalent of a Southern saloon Sermon on the Mount. Band of Sorrows, which features CL’s own Scott Harrell on guitar, opens the show. (New World Brewery, Ybor City) INFO
St. Pete Pre-Pre Fest w/The Caulfield Cult (Singapore)/Keep Flying (NJ)/Jake & the Jellyfish (UK)/more In September, CL profiled the international flavor on the bill for Pre-Pre Fest happening at Lucky You in Seminole. Organizers say most of it has to do with the bands hitting them up, but we can’t help appreciating promoters Chewy Hemphill and Christian Costello who collect the best overseas punk bands already in town to play Gainesville Fest (and Pre-Fest in Ybor City, which we preview on p. xx). The bands who come from France, Singapore, England and Panama cover the swath of punk rock and you’ll probably star bouncing around your living room when you listen to their music on our blog at cltampa.com/music.
