What about Spoon's performance at The Ritz Monday night? Great show!

This week's Tune-up features songs off just released records from Sylvan Esso, Gorillaz and Mew, plus new singles from The War On Drugs, SZA and Nite Jewel — all found below on your new mixtape.

French dudes make good music. Take Phoenix for example, they make some of the best feel-good indie pop you can find. On June 9, Phoenix returns with their first LP in four years, Ti Amo. Their lead single "J-Boy" is a summery track that will please most fans, and maybe even garner new ears. Phoenix is one of my faves, and I'm glad to see them finally release new tunes.

The War On Drugs are still channeling their inner Don Henley/Tom Petty on their brand new sprawling song, "Thinking Of A Place." It's an epic 11-minute jam session that rolls over peaks and valleys, but maintains enough to keep you engaged. The sound is a similar carryover from their excellent 2014 release, Lost In The Dream. It's spacey. It's thought provoking. It's a damn fine song.

Fortunes.' new EP Undress makes a strong case that less really is more. Packing only four tracks, Undress is an impactful release that fires on all cylinders. The New Zealand natives create an alternative R&B that is eclectic, groovy and intimate. Fortunes. give me a glimmer of hope that worthy R&B can still be created. The production takes snippets from '90s neo-soul, but still remains unique enough. Undress is sexy, but with a refreshing approach.
