Thursday night the ACLU of Florida's Greater Tampa Chamber is hosting a discussion called Reckoning with Torture: Memos and Testimonies from the "War on Terror" from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Reeves Theater on the University of Tampa campus.
According to Joyce Hamilton Henry, the Regional Director of the ACLU's Mid-Florida Office, Raising awareness of the governments torture tactics towards prisoners captured after 9/11 is essential if we are to restore the rule of law. We cant just ignore the abuses that have been taking place over the last eight years.
Among those who will be speaking include Mike Pheneger, ACLU of Florida board member and former U.S. Army Intelligence Officer, as well as with three UT professors; James Beckman, Chair of Government, World Affairs Professor Mary Anderson, Asst Professor of Govt and World Affairs and Chris Gurrie, Assistant Professor and Director of Speech.
The event is free and open to the public.
