After back-to-back nights of mostly peaceful demonstrations from protesters, the City of Tampa has lifted its nightly curfew.
“As of Tuesday, June 2, the City of Tampa will be canceling the nightly curfew,” said Marketing and Communications Director Ashley Bauman in a statement. The 7:30 p.m.-6 a.m, curfew went into effect last Sunday, May 31, after looting broke out near Tampa’s University Mall area at a protest recognizing the death of George Floyd.
Over the last couple nights, Tampa protests have been mostly docile. Roughly 50 protesters gathered in front of the downtown police station on Monday evening, and dispersed after the curfew went into effect.
As of now, St. Petersburg has yet to institute a curfew.
