Conservative alternative to AARP running ad slamming Bill Nelson

The Chairman and Founder of 60 Plus, Jim Martin, issued a statement in announcing the ad buy.

"Florida seniors and their families are facing serious and regressive challenges as a result of Senator Nelson's support for unbridled government spending. The bailouts and bureaucratic takeovers supported by Senator Nelson and his Senate colleagues have increased joblessness in Florida and across the country, cut billions from Medicare to fund new government programs, and put our families' interests and liberties at risk. Florida taxpayers need real results, not the empty promises that come with big-government spending."

60 Plus is simultaneously running a similar ad in Ohio targeting Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown, running for re-election this November as well.

Bill Nelson is likely to face Fort Myers area Congressman Connie Mack in November. Mack holds a formidable lead against GOP Senate challengers Mike McCalister and George LeMieux.

Although they've been around for two decades, the seniors advocacy group 60 Plus Association is trying to definitely make an impact in this year's congressional elections.

Portraying themselves as the conservative alternative to the AARP, the D.C. based advocacy group says it's ideology is for a "free enterprise, less government, less taxes approach to seniors issues."

They've just announced a $1.1 million ad buy here in the Sunshine State targeting Democratic U.S. Senate incumbent Bill Nelson, running for re-election this November.
