Ever whine about back pain in your twenties or early thirties? Ever avoid a meaningful protest or other social change-oriented event because you were hungover/tired/playing Pokemon Go? Well, you should feel bad. People like Dorris “Granny 'D'” Haddock are out there (even if the original herself, straw hat and all, retired to some undisclosed celestial locale in 2010). In the 90s and early 2000s, Haddock recognized how messed up our campaign finance system is, and railed against it. She walked over 3,000 miles at age 90 to draw attention to it, too — years before Citizens United. Seeking to rekindle her passion and spirit, progressive activists will celebrate her words and action with Go, Granny D! in St. Pete. Because although she's not here, the spirit that fueled her wonderful actions is, man, and we can't let that go away, especially as the age of Trump wears on. Performers Barbara Bates Smith and Jeff Sebens will help retell her story.
