For TBX critics, the fight is far from over

Those who thought the fight against Tampa Bay Express was a lost cause have reasons to rally this week.

Monday night, Officials will hold an informational meeting about the controversial project, this time specifically for those who live and work in Ybor City.

The project, which would demolish numerous homes and community spaces to make way for much-criticized "Lexus Lanes," has been a source of contention among local activists who say the project is unnecessary and outdated.

The Tampa Bay Expressway Authority warns that seating will be limited, though, and public comment will likely be restricted to writing down questions and concerns about the project on worksheets.

The event is tonight, Monday night, at the Children's Board building in Ybor from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, a much more colorful event will take place in the area to protest the proposed road widening and toll lanes.

Community activist and CL contributor Linda Saul-Sena is leading a protest march and rally as part of the Stop TBX effort. As they did several weeks ago, organizers plan to don bright yellow ponchos and tour the neighborhood, stopping by the numerous homes and other buildings that would be destroyed if the project moves forward.

Demonstrators will meet Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Office of Neighborhood Empowerment, located at 2105 N. Nebraska Avenue; the event is expected to end by noon. Participants can buy ponchos for $5.
