Ahead of Hurricane Milton’s expected Wednesday landfall, mandatory evacuations are in effect in Hillsborough and Pinellas County zones A, B, and C. Residents in mobile and manufactured homes are also ordered to evacuate.

To help residents get to shelters, bus services in both counties (Hillsborough Area Regional Transit, HART; Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority, PSTA) are offering free service Tuesday, Oct. 8 until 8 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.

Six PSTA routes—18, 34, 52, 61, 62, and coastal, picture below—are helping residents get to three general population shelters, plus three special needs shelters listed below.
  • Dunedin Highland Middle School (special needs)
  • Oak Grove Middle School (special needs)
  • Palm Harbor University High School Building 19 (special needs)
  • Gibbs High School (general population)
  • Largo High School (general population)
  • Palm Harbor University High School (general population)
PSTA bus service to Pinellas shelters will run until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8 or until sustained winds of 40 mph are reached.

In Hillsborough County, HART is operating its fare-free emergency service operations until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8. A list of Hillsborough shelters is available here.
