HART, which provides public busses for Hillsborough County, is suspending all of its services at noon Wednesday in anticipation of Tropical Storm Eta.
Just a few days before it was scheduled to return to pre-coronavirus bus schedules, HART is suspending all bus routes, the TECO Line Streetcar and the HART SMART AV service, according to a press release.
HART Director of Communications Carson Chambers told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that HART is “remaining fluid and responsive based on developing weather updates” and remaining in close contact with the Hillsborough County Emergency Operations Center.
Tampa Bay is under a tornado warning until 5 p.m. today.
WFTS’ Denis Phillips wrote that the worst of Eta will happen in Tampa Bay this afternoon and evening. He expects heavy rains and gusty winds from about 40 mph-50 mph, possible tornadoes, and power outages later today and this evening.
He also urged Tampa Bay to remain calm.
“ ...let's take a breath and look at what is happening here. The storm has peaked. Convection has dropped off significantly in the last few hours as dry air has been sucked into it,” Phillips wrote. “So, it seems VERY unlikely this storm will get any stronger, and it is LIKELY it will weaken somewhat this afternoon.”
Tampa International Airport also announced it was suspending its operations starting at 3 p.m. today, with expectations that they will resume by noon Thursday.
