Lee Roy Selmon, USF and more …

Shit Happened from Sept. 1-7, 2011

SATURDAY 3

The college football season kicks off with the unranked USF Bulls upsetting #16 Notre Dame 23-20 in a game marked by multiple weather delays and an epic F-bomb assault by Irish coach Brian Kelly. That's not how Jesus would work the sidelines.

SUNDAY 4

Bucs great and NFL Hall of Famer Lee Roy Selmon dies at age 56 after suffering a stroke on Friday. Over-the-top eulogizing aside, Selmon's fingerprints are on a lot of good things in this community, and he will be missed by more than just family and friends.

MONDAY 5

The nation takes a well-deserved day off — unless you're one of the millions of still-unemployed Americans, in which case even the calendar is thumbing its nose at you.

After a weekend spent bouncing around the Burg (and actively Tweeting about it), Scrubs star Zach Braff posts a pic of himself hanging with a fan at the St. Pete Pier. Amanda Allwood's head explodes.

TUESDAY 6

Texas continues to burn as wild fires consume thousands of acres. Isn't it about time for Rick Perry to start praying for rain?
