Mitch Perry Report 11.2.12 - RPOF laughs at the idea of extending early voting through Sunday

The Bureau of Labor Statistics today reported that the unemployment rate in the U.S. is at 7.9 percent for September, a notch about the 7.8 percent for August, but still under the symbolic 8 percent level which was where it was for much of the Obama administration.

How long until we get the Tweets from Jack Welch, Sean Hannity and others about the government cooking the books?

Meanwhile, after all the criticism the Republican Party of Florida has endured for voting to reduce the amount of early voting days for this year's election, you didn't think they would go ahead and extend early voting on Sunday, did you?

Governor Rick Scott told reporters last night that early voting would end Saturday night. Both the Florida Democratic Party and the League of Women Voters asked the governor earlier yesterday to allow Sunday voting in counties with "high voter traffic." What you didn't hear from Scott, Adam Putnam and others was the uncontrolled laughing before they straightened up and said no dice.

Although the focus in this space has mostly been about the establishment candidates for president, there are many third-party candidates on the presidential ballot in Florida. We've written about Roseanne Barr and Gary Johnson in the past. And we recently had an interview with Green Party candidate Jill Stein. That interview is in our paper this week, but a much more extensive version of that interview can be accessed here.

Recently Gloria Steinem was in St. Petersburg to argue against Amendment 6, the anti abortion-rights measure. CL's Arielle Stevenson has that interview here.

The Obama For America campaign have sent a slew of celebrities through Tampa Bay in recent days and really, recent months. Yesterday Sex In the City star Cynthia Nixon came through the area to tout the president's agenda.

And in Tampa, not everybody is psyched to see development in Riverfront Park.
