I know you're thinking about lunch, and that during lunch you'll be thinking about where to go right after work, and that during happy hour you'll be thinking about what to do for dinner, but just give us a minute so we can check "rehashing yesterday's news" off the list, willya?
The Florida Supreme Court ruled that customers in our state shouldn't have to pay for Florida Power & Light's speculative operations elsewhere, such as fracking projects in Oklahoma. The utility issued a press release expressing disappointment at the ruling, saying, "you guys know we're just gonna call it an 'equipment fee' on the bill now, right?"
Speaking of Oklahoma, that state's legislature just passed a bill that would make it a felony to perform abortions. Somewhere, Don Quixote nods approvingly and says something in a sexy accent while this goes on the taxpayers' tab.
A story broke yesterday about a Bradenton pharmacy employee who was arrested Tuesday for trying to steal more than $200K in drugs from his employer. When questioned, the employee claimed he had a drug problem — and, ostensibly, would like to continue to have it for the next decade.
And finally, our local journalism and outdoor-enthusiast communities were shocked and devastated when St. Pete Times Outdoors Editor Terry Tomalin died yesterday of a heart attack at the age of 55. This writer never met Mr. Tomalin, but it's impossible to be a journalist and angler around here and not have read his work, and been only one or two degrees separated from the man himself, who was truly loved by those whose lives intersected with his. We were lucky to have him. Our deepest condolences to his family, friends and coworkers.
