Sh*t happened 7/3/15: HIV, NASCAR hates the south, Katie Golden home

What are you doing? Get off the computer. Get outside, and get an early start on your sunburn.

Florida is seeing the highest number of new HIV cases in the nation, with Hillsborough County seeing the most in the state. There's no joke here, other than perhaps a sick one about this being proof that now absolutely everything from the '80s is officially back. Just because something hasn't been on CNN or Facebook for a while doesn't mean people aren't suffering, largely because of a lack of information. Be accountable. Educate yourselves, protect yourselves and take care of others. "It doesn't kill you anymore" is, seriously, neither true nor a reason to not worry about contracting a disease. What are you, crazy?

Teenage South Tampa runaway (?) Katie Golden has reportedly returned home. She will be allowed to leave the house again in three years.

NASCAR doesn't really want people flying their Confederate flags all around their events, thanks very much, and will give you a more patriotic American flag in exchange for your distasteful symbol of "southern heritage." (Read: support of racism.) It's a bold move for such an, er, "southern"-associated brand, and some of its fans are unhappy. Mostly it's the ones who don't mind supporting a symbol of racism, though, so fuck 'em.

And finally, "the greatest player in Lightning franchise history" is retiring from hockey. He hockeyed excellently for this city's team, and fans of hockey will miss his hockeying skills and wish him the best in his post-hockeying endeavors.
