So, is the car line at Riverview Elementary just full of cars with flat tires all the time?
Yesterday, WTVT ran a story detailing how someone has been scattering nails on the crosswalks and walkways of the school, located at 10809 Hannaway Dr., for years.
Yes, you read that right — years.
Jesse Durrance, a parent of kids at the school, told the station it happens every year and that they appear in exponentially larger amounts every time a handful of nails gets picked up. Durrance added that he literally has to carry the nails in Ziploc bags. The O’Reilly auto repair store down the street has even become the go-to spot for patching tire punctures or replacing tires altogether.
The school district and Hillsborough County Sheriff are both aware of the issue and local folks believe that a salty neighbor is to blame, but they don’t have proof.
Part of us is laughing at the fact that the culprit has been able to pull this curmudgeonly act off for so long, but tetanus and the potential for dangerous auto accidents are nothing to laugh at. Please stop putting nails in the road, people.
