St. Pete Times endorses Bob Buckhorn for Tampa Mayor

In what can't be considered a surprise if you've closely followed the editorials written so far in the St. Pete Times on the mayor's race, the newspaper this afternoon announced on their website that they are endorsing Bob Buckhorn in the March 1 election.

In an excerpt, the editorial staff writes:

The five candidates for Tampa mayor all offer experience and strong personalities, but one stands out for his energy and blend of experience and vision. Bob Buckhorn has matured into a thoughtful leader who combines the best traditions of the city’s past with a firm grasp of how Tampa and the region should grow together. The city has evolved, and so have expectations for the area’s most visible leader. Buckhorn is best prepared to deal with those complexities.

Conventional wisdom (and one poll that came out late last year) has it that Dick Greco and Rose Ferlita are the favorites to make the March 22 run-off. But that same C.W. also says that Buckhorn could get enough support to knock one of those front-runners out - and Ed Turanchik continues to gain support amongst the progressive crowd.
