Earlier today, veterinarians from St. Petersburg’s Friends of Strays shelter removed a stick from a dog’s mouth that had been wedged there for years.

Apparently, the 8-year old mutt, “Buddy,” was in constant pain.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before,” says Friends of Strays veterinarian, Dr. Katie Emerson. “It’s hard to tell how long the stick had been stuck in his mouth, but based on the damage it caused to his teeth it had likely been there for multiple years.”

The stick was about 3-inches long and wedged across the roof of his mouth, stuck between a tooth on each side. The veterinarians stumbled upon the stick on accident during a simple dental cleaning appointment.

Buddy, who was fortunately adopted from the nonprofit shelter last month, no longer has to live his life in pain.
