A Tampa couple stopped a potential home intruder this week.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, a large alligator found its way into Mark and Pam Pomfret’s lanai and started banging on the window at around 2:30 a.m. on June 1.

“When they flipped on their lights, they certainly weren't expecting it to be a 9-foot alligator,” said HCSO in a Facebook post.

Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were called to help trap and relocate the alligator, and no one was injured, says HCSO.

Alligator mating season is officially here until the end of June. So, for the next month be on the lookout for gators on the move. If you spot one hanging out where it shouldn't, call the HCSO non-emergency number at 813-247-8200 or the FWC's toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-392-4296.
