Former St. Pete penthouse of original Tampa Bay Rays owner Vince Naimoli is now for sale

A St. Petersburg penthouse that once belonged to the guy credited with landing a Major League Baseball expansion team in Tampa Bay is now on the market.

Located at 4981 Bacopa Lane S #801 at the Bacopa Bay Condo building, the waterfront penthouse is the former residence of the late Vince Naimoli, the original owner of the Tampa Bay Rays franchise.

According to property records, Naimoli purchased the home for $546,900 in September of 1997, shortly before the Tampa Bay Rays' inaugural season, and he later sold it in 2003 for $895,000.

The 3,028-square-foot penthouse comes with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, as well as 10-foot ceilings throughout, electric storm shutters, a breakfast bar, and access to two pools, tennis courts and a fitness center.

The club never won more than 70 games a season under Naimoli's reign, and in 2004 he sold the team to a group led by current Rays principal Stuart Sternberg. In 2019, Naimoli died at the age of 81 after a five year battle with an uncommon brain disorder.

The Naimoli pad is currently asking $2,190,000, and the listing agent is Roger Hogan of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty’s Beaches of Pinellas office.
