For the last two-and-a-half months, large, pro-Palestinian crowds have coalesced in downtown Tampa to call for a ceasefire and protest the bombardment of Gaza carried out by the Israeli government since Oct. 7 when a Hamas attack killed 1,200.
To date, nearly 18,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The United Nations—whose security council passed resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war—is even set to hold a panel on whether or not Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
On Monday night, after a full-day global strike for Palestine, perhaps the largest Tampa crowd to date (up to 200 people at one point) made its way from city hall, around downtown, and even stopped traffic on the Lafayette Street Bridge in solidarity with the “Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions” (BDS) movement which, in part, works to end international support for Israel's oppression of Palestinians.
