Last night in Temple Terrace, close to 200 pro-Palestine supporters gathered at the corner of 56th Street and Fowler Avenue for a vigil to remember those killed and injured in Israel's ongoing war on Palestine.

Those gathered also brought light to the ongoing plight of Palestinians, who saw their people displaced by Israel in 1948 and have since been subject to what Amnesty International calls an ongoing apartheid.

Israel’s relentless attack on Gaza is now in its 12th consecutive day, with the United Nations saying that 20 of 23 hospitals in the Palestinian territory are only partially operational.

According to the Associated Press,  doctors in Gaza City are reportedly doing surgery on hospital floors, often without anesthesia, in attempts to treat civilians injured in a recent blast that killed people sheltering in a hospital.

Humanitarian aid is still sitting on the Egyptian border, waiting for the Israeli government to allow it to enter Palestine and deliver much needed food, water and medicine.

Jewish Voice for Peace, which calls itself “the largest progressive Jewish anti-Zionist organization in the world,” has called on Congress to take action to de-escalate attacks “to prevent the further loss of life, and not fuel and exacerbate the violence by sending more weapons to Israel.”

Since Oct. 7, when a Hamas attack reportedly killed more than 1,400 people, Israel’s attacks on Gaza have killed close to 3,000 people. More than a third of those killed in Gaza were children, according to Democracy Now‚ which added that the figure “does not include an estimated 1,000 additional Palestinians trapped under rubble of homes and businesses.”
