Because you never know when WWIII is going to go down, a very round house with a very Cold War-era bonus room is now on the market in Citrus County.

Located at 864 N Pennybacker Rd., in Inverness, the main home was built in 2008 and consists of two octagon structures sitting on a five-acre plot overlooking Tsala Apopka Lake.

The 2,452-square-foot home comes with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, as well wood beam vaulted ceilings, two owners retreats, a study, a full-house reverse osmosis water system, and the true belle of the ball ... a 1950s underground bomb shelter.

In the late-'50s and early-'60s, Florida witnessed a bit of a bomb shelter boom because of the threat of nuclear war, particularly around the time of the Berlin Wall construction and during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

So, it wasn't that uncommon for families in Florida to build these bunkers and stockpile them with supplies.

"Thankfully, aside from a few drills and the drama of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, these shelters were never needed for their intended purpose," says the Florida State Archives. "Many were later remodeled for storage or other purposes. A few still remain, however, and they remind us of how seriously the danger of nuclear war commanded the attention of Floridians living during the Cold War."

As you can see from the photos, this particular bomb shelter appears to be in pretty good  shape, and would make a great shed or maybe even a spot for your visiting in-laws.

If you want to own this bunker, it's currently asking $694,000 and the listing agent is Justine Zodda of Peoples Trust Realty.
