The first day of the New Year brings some interesting live music highlights. Check 'em below…

Prisoner with Landbridge, God Harvest, Permanent Makeup, Kodama, Eliot Mayo Planet Retro kicks off the first day of the New Year with an eardrum-busting DIY lineup led by Richmond, Va.’s Prisoner, which finds ex- and current members of Inter Arma and Balaclava setting a cacophony of guttural howls and higher-pitched shrieks against seething and slow-coiling sludge metal or faster-paced blasts of punk-crusted guitar-distorted grindcore. Several suitably loud, abrasive and unruly local acts round out the evening. (Planet Retro Records, St. Petersburg)

Donna the Buffalo The last performance of a three-night NYE-fueled stand featuring the folk-Zydeco ensemble from upstate New York. (Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa)

Rock the Park with Urbane Cowboys, Ursaria, Los Demolirs The first Rock the Park of 2015 touches on the alt country twang and whiskey-doused rock of Urbane Cowboys, back together this past fall with Michael Snayd in the fold and bearing new material along with the old favorites. Tampa-by-way-of-Pensacola foursome Ursaria has a folk-tinged synths-soaked indie rock sound while Sarasota-based Los Demolirs crafts psychedelic creeping and blues-grooving rock with some lo fi fuzz and hooting vocal harmonies, “What you get when a Detroit guitarist joins forces with Florida beach bums.” (Curtis Hixon Park, Tampa)

T.B.H.C. Presents The Skywaymen: Jim Putney, Dave Reeder, Duane Rollick and Doug Burns
