Did somebody say self-serve craft beer and wine?
Pour Taproom is making the pour-it-yourself concept a reality in downtown St. Pete. The St. Pete taphouse, which has licensed its name and technology from Pour founder Nate Tomforde, bills itself as the biggest self-serve bar in the country with 85 taps — many of them reserved for locally made suds.
Here's how it works: Electronically linked bracelets, which are connected to the bar's draft lines, allow customers to fetch their own beer by the ounce. They can download codes to their smartphones to activate the in-house bounty of taps as well.
Slated to launch in fall, the new taphouse is next-door neighbors with 2nd & Second at 226 Second Ave. N. The 24-hour diner, also expected to open this year, will serve up a dedicated food menu to Pour patrons who're looking to get some grub delivered.
"Our concept allows guests to test multiple craft beers without having to pay by the glass to figure out what they like best," said Tomforde in a statement. "This is an experience the area has been missing, and we think Tampa Bay residents are going to love this addition to the already stellar craft beer scene downtown."
There's 2,258 square feet of indoor seating, plus more options outside. To keep folks occupied while they imbibe, outdoor activities include a full-size bocce ball court, cornhole and Ping-Pong tables. A mimosa bar — self-serve and all — from noon to 4 p.m. on weekends and live music are a couple of the bar's weekly highlights.
"Pour Taproom fosters a love of the local craft beer community, which makes it perfect for St. Pete," said Tanner Moody, co-owner of the Bay area's first location. "Our goal is to support this community by showcasing their products to locals and tourists alike."
Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect that Pour Taproom St. Pete is a "licensed location," not a franchise, according to co-owner Tanner Moody.
