With last week's national holiday placed in the middle of the week, it was inarguably the slowest time for news this summer. Cheers for those of you who were out of the office enjoying yourself; though we were tethered for the most part to our laptop, we did get out and enjoy some new Hollywood releases at the multiplex.
Our least favorite of the four films we saw was probably the new Spiderman. Not bad, just not very interesting. Ted has some extremely funny one-liners, though it's hard to sustain a full length picture with a talking teddy bear co-starring.
More interesting was Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, our favorite flick from the now 43-year old director since his 2001 classic The Royal Tenenbaums, and Oliver Stone's Savages, which is exciting, and includes great performances by Benecio Del Toro and John Travolta. Stone's best we'll say since the vastly underrated Nixon from 1995.
Okay, back to work. We always say we watch the Sunday morning public affairs shows so you don't have to. None of them were very newsworthy yesterday, which is why we seized on a comment by Fox News Sunday's Bill Kristol on his desire for Mitt Romney to select Condi Rice as his running mate.
On Saturday the Romney campaign got busy all across the country targeting voters of all political stripes. Cl went out to the Hillsborough County Republican headquarters in Brandon to check it all out.
And on Friday afternoon CL sat down with Gary Johnson, the Libertarian presidential candidate. No surprises occurred in our interview. The former New Mexico Governor has some noted progressive stances (on legalizing weed and allowing same-sex marriages), but otherwise he fits comfortably in the Republican Party that he belonged to until a few months ago.
